Statement from USRF Board Chair Amb. John R. Beyrle on the Death of Alexei Navalny

Alexei Navalny was a tireless advocate for democratic principles, including civic and political rights, press freedoms, and the rule of law. His death, a direct consequence of the Kremlin’s brutality, is a tragedy for all those who cherish and fight for these principles in Russia and around the world. 

As the Kremlin’s illegal war in Ukraine and its repression of independent voices inside Russia continues, the U.S. Russia Foundation reiterates its unwavering commitment to support the many Russians who seek a different, and peaceful future for their country. To this end, we will continue to promote work in the areas of Rule of Law, Media and Free Enterprise, and Civil Society, and in so doing honor Alexei Navalny’s memory.
